As mentioned, the learning format is completely interactive and self-paced. Each course is broken down into chapters filled with interactive exercises where you do all the coding. Each time you complete an exercise, you are taken to a new screen where the next exercise awaits. The screen is divided in half: on the left-hand size, you’ll see an explanation of the exercise as well as instructions on how to complete it. There’s also a button you can press to take a hint. On the right-hand side is where you perform the actual exercise. There’s no need to download software. The platform is built in a way that allows you to perform R, Python, or SQL exercises directly in the browser.
DataCamp is very big on gamification. You earn points for pretty much everything you do–from logging on to the platform on consecutive days to completing exercises to reaching the end of a course. Points are even deducted for taking a hint. The platform constantly sends out alerts and notifications when you reach goals. Warning: it can be addictive, but that’s the point as it encourages you to learn.
